Water-oriented garden decoration
Owners of very small gardens always encounter considerable problems in their design. And the point is not that many objects have to be abandoned altogether. The area of the garden does not allow to break numerous flower beds and flower beds; in the arrangement, it is necessary to carefully weigh each centimeter of free space. In such gardens, the idea of decoration, the general concept and thoughtfulness of details plays a special role and requires very careful consideration of each element. If a neat pond is broken in a small garden, it automatically becomes the semantic center of the entire garden and its main pride and decoration. In such a garden, the design should be focused specifically on water design elements.
If in the garden on a small area it was possible to equip the pond, it will invariably become the center of general attention and its main decoration. And he will play the role of the semantic center of the garden, regardless of whether a strict, modern or landscape body of water is involved and what efforts have been made to equip bright flower gardens and comfortable recreation areas. And if the pond still dominates, it is better not to try to shift the emphasis, but it is advantageous to use the reservoir itself, arranging the site in such a way that it focuses on your favorite water garden. This is not so difficult to do. It’s enough to competently use limited space, choose a “water” color scheme and skillfully repel a body of water in the structure of the site.
The focus is on the design of the pond
Since the pond will dictate the design of the entire garden, special attention should be paid to its decoration. The water body that serves as the starting point in design is literally brought to perfection. Even in the smallest pond, dwarf varieties of water lilies can be settled, other aquatic plants can be used, the growth of which is easy to control (for example, awl-like arrowhead or arrowhead pontederia). Do not forget about the possibility of installing a fountain, a beautiful parapet or bridges, sculptures, walking paths, scrupulously approach the design of the coastline from approaches to water to visual peaks in the form of shrubs and large perennials. Make sure that the pond looks not just attractive, but bright and stylish.
The structure of the garden, the design of which is focused on the pond, should be as simple as possible, to bring the feeling of spaciousness and freedom of view to the absolute. In order to profitably open the pond and make it the semantic center of the whole design, it is necessary to balance the free space and the lush plantings.
In small gardens, the best zoning option would be to concentrate plantations in the area of the pond itself and to arrange voluminous flower beds and flower beds around the garden perimeter with a kind of frame, using them to create a luxurious and vibrant canvas. It is better to leave the center of the garden free, breaking a luxurious green carpet or a meadow of groundcover (even if the pond is located in the middle, surround it with a lawn perimeter repeating the shape of the pond itself).
When placing relaxation areas and planning a small garden or other objects with limited functionality, try to place them so that they act as “balances” to the pond itself, are located on the opposite side of the garden along the diagonals (this principle is also better for placing furniture on the terrace).
"Water" color scheme
The emphasis in the design of the garden, from gardening to the choice of materials should be made on a calm and cool color palette, experiments with blue and other cold colors. Detached, harmonious and cool, such a palette will enhance the impact of the pond and allow you to achieve the effect of expanding the boundaries of the garden while enhancing the role of the reservoir, further emphasizing its style-forming function.
It is better not to overdo it with bluish-colored plants: let the blue color not be dominant, but be perceived as an accent and catchy “spots”. Turn each plant or group of plants with a basic color into bright decorating elements, emphasizing them with greens and white, purple and violet colors, making the whole design more harmonious and festive. Feel free to complement the main color with unexpected contrasts, mix and experiment.
If you have the opportunity, repaint the groans and fences, upgrade or select the appropriate garden furniture and wooden supports for plants, use textiles and accessories to help emphasize the water ideas of garden design.
Lush ensembles to match the pond
When filling flower beds and flowers, give preference to plants that will create colorful, but calmly harmonious compositions that can support the water theme of design with their aesthetics. Bells, oak sage, dolphiniums, bluehead, gentian, brunner, asters, violet horned, aquilegia, decorative bows, lupins, nyvyanik, veronika, bluebells, lavender, twining trellises and other clematis bearings arranged as accents and trimmed oneself "Connector" decorative foliage plants will help create expressive, but very voluminous compositions.
In such a garden, the most expressive and textured plants will look great from majestic hostas and musical cereals to an airy cuff, indefatigable periwinkle, elaborate geicher, shining in the company of blue-colored plants with precious metals of crops with silver foliage - purses, wormwood, etc.
Do not forget about the continuous flowering and seasonal accents: magnificent bulbs from muscari to scylla, hyacinths and pansies and bright summers from petunias and lobelia to ageratum and morning glory will help fill the garden with cheerful carefreeness and at the same time emphasize the chosen gamut. Stone flower beds and lawns, socles and supports will add vertical expressiveness and structural perfection to any flower garden.
Water fun does not happen much!
It is advisable to “repulse” the pond in at least one other place in the garden - to introduce another water body to enhance atmospheric conditions. It can be a miniature fountain on the terrace, a wall fountain, a portable pond in a decorative container or ordinary tanks for collecting rainwater, which can be turned into a small decorative masterpiece thanks to complaints located at different levels and even a simple transparent vase filled with water with floating candles on the table. Such small water bodies will create a cozy atmosphere, but their main purpose is to strengthen the role of the pond and bring harmony to the design, emphasizing the water theme.
