Dracaena (Dracaena) - a genus of plants of the Asparagus family, trees or succulent shrubs. The number of species is about 110.

Surely you saw a dracaena at least once in your life - the plant is quite common. It is a shrub that consists of a rosette of leaves on straight stems. Stems with age turns into a trunk. The plant can reach quite impressive sizes up to 2-3 meters in height. The leaves of this plant are narrow and elongated from 15 to 75 centimeters long. Since dracaena belongs to unpretentious plants, caring for it will not cause you unnecessary trouble.

Home Care Dracaena

Lighting for dracaena is of great importance, this plant is very fond of light. At home, dracaena should be kept on the east or west windows of the apartment. If this is the south side, it should be a little protected from direct sunlight. If there is little light for her, she will immediately let you know about it, her leaves will lose their natural color after a while.

Watering. Dracaena loves moisture no less than light. You can water the plant abundantly, without fear of overflow. The first sign that the plant requires water is dried up soil on the surface of the pot, it is enough that the earth has dried out a few centimeters and the plant can be watered again. It is recommended to loosen the dried soil slightly before watering.

For irrigation, it is better to use filtered water or pre-boiled and cooled, as for all plants. In summer, dracaena is watered once every two days, and it should also be sprayed. In winter, as a rule, the plant is in a dormant period or is still said to sleep, watering should be reduced to once every four days. If there is little water for the plant, the leaves begin to fade.

If your home dracaena has perfectly grown, you can plant it, in other words, propagate it. Reproduction can occur in several ways: by seeds, cuttings, cuttings from the top of the plant.

The first method is suitable only if you purchase seeds in a store, but the second and third can be used at home. Propagation by cuttings occurs as follows. It is necessary to choose a young stalk, which subsequently must be cut into several stems 4-6 centimeters long. Each segment should have kidneys. On one side, cut the bark and stick into the prepared soil.

For the first time, it is necessary to place the plant in a warm place. Layers from the top of the dracaena, the easiest way. The tops of the plant must be cut off and put in a glass of water so that they take root, though it will take a lot of time, about 3-4 months. After the plant takes root, it can be planted in a pot of soil.

Good luck! Let your dracaena make you happy!
